The Kenilworth New Jersey Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF SERVICE.

The Borough of Kenilworth, New Jersey, established a volunteer fire department in 1913. Today a century later, the KFD continues to be a dedicated group of volunteer citizens who provide Fire, Rescue, EMS, and community services to the residents and business owners of Kenilworth.  We operate two Engines (Eng. 4, Eng. 2), one Rescue/Pumper (Squad 2), one Tower Ladder (Truck 3), a Rescue (Squad 1), and two ambulances (Rescue 1 & 2).

Kenilworth is a suburban community of approximately two square miles with a population of about 7,800. The KFD is responsible for protecting the borough’s residential property, a busy hotel, and numerous manufacturing facilities and businesses. Additionally, our department is tasked to handle emergency incidents on the Garden State Parkway and Route 22, both of which are busy, multi-laned highways. Also within our primary response district is the large business complex of Merck, a major pharmaceutical company.

The Kenilworth Fire Department participates in the Union County Fire Mutual Aid system. Being centrally located within Union County, the KFD is often called upon to provide Mutual Aid responses for fire and other emergencies in many of the surrounding towns.

Throughout the course of the year and countless hours of training you’ll also find us involved in numerous community events. These include Fire Prevention Week programs for grade school children, delivering gifts around the holidays on our KFD Santa’s Express, collecting gifts for USMC‘s Toys for Tots, hosting the United  States Marine Corps Recruit Family Day and our annual Open House. We also host the Firemen’s Carnival — an annual Kenilworth summertime tradition.

The Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded over 1,700 emergency calls in 2012. None of this would be possible without your continued support.
Thank you!
